Don’t Dim Your Shine

Don’t Dim Your Shine! (Excerpt from Phenomenal Woman Gurl That’s U!)

When I was a little girl, one of the songs that we grew up on at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church during  all of my childhood, was “this little light of mine”. You know it well, this little light of mine, im gonna let it shine. When I sang it I didn't understand what kind of light they were talking about, but it was a cute song and we liked it.
As I continued to mature and even today I know exactly what they were talking about. I'm reminded of a story about a time when my shine or my light attracted my first hater - or as we called them back in the day, a bully. In the third grade, for a period of about two months, I had a bully. She shall remain nameless because why would I give her credit at this point. She saw my shine. Every day for almost 2 months she terrorized me. I would have to bring her my milk money. She would threaten to beat me up, and just be generally mean whenever she could. It really bothered me. It really perplexed me. All I had were friends and people who loved me. Why this girl hated me was a mystery. One day my teacher, Mrs. Cecelia Irvin, asked me to pass out some papers, as she often did. As I jumped up to comply with her request as one of her favorites I noticed that my bully - lets just call her Bailey for the purposes of my story - was looking at me sideways as usual. In that moment I got an idea.  I asked Mrs Irvin if Bailey could help me. She agreed and Bailey jumped up beaming with joy to help pass out the papers. At the end of our task, I said “Wow! Bailey was a lot faster than me, wasn’t she Mrs. Irvin?” Mrs. Irving agreed and said, “great job Bailey.” And we sat down. Bailey turned around and smiled at me for the first time in two months. You see, my shine in that classroom was getting to Bailey. I was the little administrator always helping my beloved teacher Mrs Irvin. The only way Bailey knew how to deal with her lack of shine was to terrorize me. Bailey and I never became good friends or anything, but that was the last day she took my milk money. That day when I shared my shine with her, Mrs. Irvin started calling on her to help her out sometimes as well; and just like that, it was over. Side note, my uncle started giving me extra milk money so I had enough for both me and Bailey. He just thought I was helping out a friend. As a third grader,  I didn't know anything about my shine but Bailey did; its what she coveted. Mrs Irvin did; its what she bragged about to other students. But I really didn’t.

That light, that shine, that “IT” factor - follows you all the days of your life. Your SHINE is that Special Happening Inside Nobody Else!  That shine on the inside is the thing that will draw people to you the rest of your life. That “IT” factor that you don't understand when it happens especially on the days when you weren't even trying to look good and someone walks up to you and says “you look so pretty today”, and you look bewildered! “Why today, really today? I didn't even take a selfie today before I left the house. I didn't even try that hard today. But okay!” It's those days when you were caught showing your shine. People may walk up to you and comment on some physical aspect about you because that's what drew them to you, but in all actuality that person noticed something that was intangible about you. That person noticed something that was unreachable. That person was drawn to your SHINE. There is something to be said about a woman who understands her worth and her purpose. There is something to be said about a phenomenal woman who understands her shine.

In this book, I will use the backdrop of the poem by Maya Angelou, “Phenomenal Woman” to explore topics that every woman can see themselves either struggling or thriving with. I will attempt to encourage you with each line. In fact, I was struggling with the first line of this poem as a basis. “Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.” In my gathering of notes and doodling of ideas, I didn't want to start the book talking about looks, but then I had the “aha moment” about my SHINE and your SHINE.  It occured to me that this first line is not about physical appearance. In life, it’s rarely about the outward appearance.  It really has to do with our shine. On the days I try little harder with my Mary Kay application of my makeup; or my selection of garb for the day; or when my curls are popping just right on my head, that's all well and good, but its extra. Regardless of how well I dress up the outside, it’s the inside that’s going to either shine or diminish everything that I did on the outside. I didn't always understand it, but I get it now.

As women, I believe the sooner we understand the inside...the sooner we understand the wonderfully and fearfully...the sooner we get what the “IT” factor is all about..the better. Anything great about you, anything great about me, was pre-planned by God. Before anyone knew who Dagne was; before anyone knew who you were - God had already laid out a plan and a purpose for your life. He put the shine on the inside from day one. He put the wonderfully and fearfully on the inside from day one. The moment that his impartation of the shine and your acceptance and embrace of the shine met that's when “phenomenal” took place. My goal in this book is to help you get to your phenomenal. But it starts with embracing your shine. Your shine is your shine. My shine is my shine. The moment we embrace our shine, accept the wonderfully and fearfully, and stop coveting someone else’s shine, that's the day phenomenal takes place. There is more, however, once you recognize it in you, then honor it in another sister!

I asked several other Phenomenal Women to give me a snippet of their SHINE to encourage others. Each one later told me writing those couple of paragraphs from reflecting on a line in the poem was theraputic for them. I thank God for them since it’s no way I could effectively encourage all women with this concept without reach beyond my own narrow thoughts. Thank you to my sisters (detailed in the appendix with their bio briefs) for reaching inside your SHINE connecting with my SHINE and together illuminating some much needed light in some areas of darkness and discouragement.  It is my prayer you find many truths to combat any lie that may be tearing you down to build you up! Find your shine my sister, while reading this book!  Don’t linger in those areas of disappointment. You have too much Special Happening In Nobody Else!  Phenomenal woman, gUrl that's U!

Bring Out the God-Colors

Matthew 5:14-16, MSG
“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors
in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as
public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to
hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve
put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be
generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open
up with God, this generous Father in heaven.

I love the way the Message bible puts this scripture.  Keep open house - be generous with your lives.  As servants of Christ, we are most fruitful when we are light in every area.  All too often we are only light around other light.  Sundays is like a laser show with all the light pinging off of one another at churches all over the world.  Today is Monday, is there light where you are right now, or are you it?  Do we always see ourselves as this "bringing out the God-colors" where we go?  I must admit I don't.  Sometimes, I even shrink from "trying to shine" because I really don't want to bothered.  Shame on me...
When I read this scripture today, it brought up three different instances to mind.  One where I know that's why I was in a certain place to have a conversation with someone completely unsolicited and unplanned that lead to them coming back to Christ.  Another where I was the one in the dark place and needed a friend who encouraged me back into a lit room.  Finally, my mind went to a time, recently, where I was not willing to step out of my comfort zone and say something that I know might have made a difference with someone.  I know his grace is sufficient, but I don't always want to be pulling on that, especially in these areas where I know better.
This week let us be intentional about this SONshine on the inside of us.  Let us share his love in a tangible way.  Let us move from the thing that is comfortable into the thing that stretches us.  Let us KEEP OPEN HOUSE with our lives this week.  Love on someone for no reason.  Call someone just because.  Actively listen in the conversations you are having and listen for the broken pieces so you can help mend them.  By doing so we will as the word says "prompt people to open up with God", starting with us!  This is what I heard today...be blessed and be a blessing always....

Stay in Your Lane & Focus on the Road

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him. 1 Corinthians 7:17, ESV

Recently I was driving out of town going to visit relatives.  During the drive I was reminded of the fact that I drive so much differently than I used to when I was taking road trips in college.  In my earlier years of driving I would get so nervous when passing an 18-wheeler because I thought it was going to come into my lane and run me off the road.  The main reason I believed that was whenever I was about to pass one, I would never have my eyes on the road in front of me, I would always have my eyes on the 18-wheeler.  Because of that perspective while driving, it always FELT LIKE the truck was IN MY LANE when that was never the case.  Now I drive with my eyes on the road in front of me, stay in my lane and pass with caution TRUSTING THE FACT THAT the other car will do the same, but not focus on that driver at all.

You see the problem with my driving skills in the example above is that I HAVE LEARNED that when I changed MY THINKING and what I was focused on when driving, I became much more relaxed and a better driver!  Likewise in life, when we keep our mind on what is TRUE (God's word concerning us); what is PURE (thoughts that build and don't tear down); what is HONORABLE (things minding our own business and not that of another); what is worthy of PRAISE (anything opposite of a complaint!) THEN we will change our thinking patterns.  It is then we will become better DRIVERS so that we can know that the other person is NOT COMING OVER TO RUN YOU OFF THE ROAD, because you are focused on the life the Lord has assigned to YOU.  He is the AUTHOR and FINISHER of THAT PLAN.  Focus on that excellence and we will be safer, better and more confident drivers.  I will remain CONFIDENT IN THIS I will see the goodness of the Lord!

That's what I heard!  Be blessed today!!!

Love. Love. Love.

God commands us to "love thy neighbor" in several different ways and occasions in the word.  That is the command.  The ASSUMPTION is you love yourself.
I think that is the problem that keeps us from loving the neighbor, the family, the friends, is lack of love of self.  Love God...Love yourself...Love others!!
That. Is.  All

And now I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. (John 13:34)

Do not take revenge on others or continue to hate them, but love your neighbors as you love yourself. I am the Lord. (Leviticus 19:18)

Above everything, love one another earnestly, because love covers over many sins. (1 Peter 4:8)

Kingdom Labor Day

Happy Labor Day to the Kingdom Laborers

1 Timothy 4:10 For to this end we labor and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of them that believe.

In this scripture Paul is encouraging Timothy and other ministers of the gospel. This whole section of scripture (vs 1-10) is telling them to stick with the basics of spiritual disciplines.  He lets them know from his own perspective this is not an easy life. But to continue to LABOR AND STRIVE in the hopes that all men be saved. In such an endeavor OUR HOPE is in the living God. He is the one who we r laboring for and that's who gets the glory.

Likewise on this Labor Day I want to encourage all the kingdom laborers. Those in fullTime ministry at a church.  Those in full time ministry in their homes and community.  Those in full time ministry at their jobs in the marketplace. Those in full time ministry of reconciliation wherever they go.

None of us are part time. This is a full time waking hours position. As we LABOR AND STRIVE each day to make the true and living God shine in and through our lives his rest is our labor unions. As full time kingdom laborers our bonus and raise comes in the form of rest with him being a burden bearer for the heavy laden of kingdom work. This job is better than "your good government job" because it has benefits of FAVOR. As a kingdom laborer when I need to call in sick the true and living God is there to heal me from all my diseases. At the "company picnic" when we hear the annual report no matter what kind of year we had the Lord is working things together for our good. When we have our board meetings with a kingdom agenda he is there in the midst of us.

So to all of u who r taking the day off remember that WE HAVE A HOPE in God and HE is giving us rest.

That's what I heard today!  Be blessed. Be a blessing. Happy Labor Day!

Just Play Ur Hand

U have heard that favor ain't fair. Well I say it's fair for those who Love the Lord our God. This scripture reminds me of that in Psalms 90:17 Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!

So picture this game with me. It's Spades night and U have ur snacks and the card table and the other team already talking smack. U see it?  This scripture is like playing spades with Jesus as ur partner!  Lets picture this hand. U have no spades!  U have a couple of possibles at best. U know u cant do anything but go board and u still may get set with this hand. But then Jesus speaks up (interceding on ur behalf) and says we r going 10for2!  U r like what???? Jesus what u mean??? Do u know what I have in my hand!?!?  Jesus is like "just play ur hand. We got this."

So u r making moves. U r trusting him and when the opponents start to play that Ace of heart that just beat out that queen u had, ur one possible dream in ur hand BAM Jesus is cutting that mess up with a spade. Now that's ur book. Ur dream again!  Finally here is the good news. U r down to ur last cards and u don't know how u r going to make it. U trust Jesus and he shows u he also has BOTH JOKERS in his hand. They can't do anything to u without him being the one who is playing it!  Whew!  I could shout right here!  U thought u were set...u thought u would renig but u just played ur hand and THE MASTER OF THE SEAS heard ur despairing cry!  The Lord established the work of ur hands by playing his in concert with urs. (Just like his word says according to the power at work in us...according to the cards in ur hand all along) With Jesus as your partner u r beating the odds all the while.

That's what I heard!  Hope u r encouraged by it!  I'm back. Be blessed today. Smooches!! Mrs Barton.

WayMaker Miracle Worker...That's Who U R

Scripture A psalm of praise. Of David. I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever. Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever. Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. (Psa 145:1-3 NIV)

Praise:  In every situation I am facing U R still God. U can make a way out of no way. U can turn the situation around to actually find something for my good. All things are working together. The fruit of my womb is blessed. My seed is blessed. Ur word will come to pass concerning them. I will move out of ur way God and let you be God. I will praise u in it and through it and on the other side of it!!

Prayer: LORD, help me lift my voice to You today--and every day--to acknowledge You and thank You for all You have done for me. You are good and Your mercy is forever! As I meditate on who You are, what You have done, what You have made, and the awesome, unfathomable power You possess, I realize I can not even comprehend all that You are. You are truly wonderful and I thank You for loving us and caring for us. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Put a Praise on It First...Whatever IT Is!

Mark 6:38. “How many loaves do you have?” he asked. “Go and see.” When they found out, they said, “Five—and two fish.

Matthew 14:1919 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.

Two things powerful happened here. First Jesus had them acknowledge what they had in their hand. Sometimes you just need to be grateful for the things that you actually do have. We also sometimes need to be realistic about what you have. It is when you can fully embrace where you are that  you can begin to trust God to work the situation to where you need to be. But what's in order today? What's in order right now? Today we need to just put a praise on whatever you have in your hand.

Additionally, and this is the great part Jesus gave thanks for the insufficiency of the 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread and that's when it was multiplied to feed them all!!!!  What?? Wow!

Whatever you are dealing with today - THANK GOD FOR WHAT YOU HAVE; THANK HIM FOR WHERE YOU ARE COMPARED TO WHERE U USED TO BE!  It is then that he can multiply it to FEED A MULTITUDE!   Thank you God for what it looks like RIGHT NOW!   Right now with my finances! Right now with my child! Right now with my relationships! Right now with my job! Right now with my health! Right now with my emotions! Right now with every situation that is causing me Grief!  I know u r well able to do exceeding and abundantly MORE than we can ask or think!   You will multiply it and allow it to feed a multitude. You will get the glory out of my life and I will be available  and able to give your name all the glory honor and praise!!!

That's what I heard today, be blessed and be a blessing ..

Added Flavor: Discerning Spice

April 8, 2017

One day as we were going down to the place of prayer, we met a demon- possessed slave girl. She was a fortune-teller who earned a lot of money for her masters. She followed along behind us shouting, "These men are servants of the Most High God, and they have come to tell you how to be saved." This went on day after day until Paul got so exasperated that he turned and spoke to the demon within her. "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her," he said. And instantly it left her. (Acts 16:16-18 NLT)

Nugget:  Sometimes people will come into your life in camouflage.  It looks like one thing and is another all together.  In this day and time, we need a more discerning spirit to be able to call the SPIRIT out of the people posing to have your best interest.  If u want to be a spice girl for life, then this is one of spices needed most - DISCERNING SPICE - mount up!

Prayer: LORD, thank You for reminding me that the enemy can speak the truth if it serves his purpose or produces a result he wants. Help me to be more discerning and not so readily accept anything anyone says just because it "sounds" or "feels" right or they associate Your name with it. I want to always recognize and follow Your genuine leadership in everything that concerns my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Not a Leper....But Unclean

Leviticus 13:45-46 - 45"As for the leper who has the infection, his clothes shall be torn, and the hair of his head shall be uncovered, and he shall cover his mustache and cry, 'Unclean! Unclean!' 46"He shall remain unclean all the days during which he has the infection; he is unclean. He shall live alone; his dwelling shall be outside the camp.

In the biblical times as you can see from this scripture there were rules about lepers and others who were “infirmed and unclean” that they had to dwell outside of the camp with the other people.  They had to announce themselves when they entered any public place to alert everyone they were there and therefore exposing them to their leprosy. When the priest had pronounced the leper unclean, it put a stop to his business in the world, cut him off from his friends and relations, and ruined all the comfort he could have in the world. He must humble himself under the mighty hand of God, not insisting upon his cleanness, when the priest had pronounced him unclean, but accepting the punishment.  Verse 46 said he shall live alone….  In the New Testament – the same rule is on the scene when Jesus enters.  Luke 17:12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance.

Today, aren't you glad you don’t have to walk in Schnucks and announce your stuff?  LIAR, Unclean.    COVETING OTHER FOLK STUFF, Unclean.  WON’T STAY IN MY LANE, BUT ALL IN HER-LANE AND HIS-LANE WITH CLIFF NOTE VERSIONS OF WHAT I WOULDA SHOULDA COULDA, Unclean.  OVERSPENDING WHEN I KNOW I NEED TO GET THIS DEBT DOWN, Unclean.  No….we don’t want that.  Not at all.  We want to keep our stuff to ourselves and think it's ok.

The problem with that is not that you are going to have to go live on the outskirts of I-64; under the bridge, or outside of the city limits; THE PROBLEM IS that all these little things keep you outside the Holy of Holies.  It’s like worship is high on a Sunday morning and you are just watching it and not in it. -Or- You wake up in the morning and what used to bring you right into the presence, takes you even longer if you ever even get there.  See as Christians – we have sense enough (or at least we should) not to be dipping in the sinners top ten (10 commandments) but the other little foxes – the WEIGHTS THAT SO EASILY BESET US and we all have them – that keeps "standing at a distance” from God.  We all have weights, and no your pastor is not going to have you on a list or cut you off from your friends, but it’s affecting your authentic worship.  It keeps us from "giving him something he can feel!" The weights make us wait.  The enemy wants you to keep it hidden so he can condemn. Don't let him win!  Gods got you! Talk to God about your weights and deal with them.  I had a little talk about mine... more plank work!  That’s what I heard….be blessed today!

Plank Averted

Matthew 7:3“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?

Today I'm doing plank work. No not the exercise plank (which I despise) but spring cleaning some gathered sawdust of specks. I am impatient, I tend to over administrate, I have a quick wit and too quick to respond at times to name a few.

Plank is defined as 1. a long, flat piece of timber, thicker than a board.  In the scripture it refers to a plank in comparison to sawdust. In other words (my words) sawdust gathered together over time may make a plank. I want us to have planks averted. Because if there is a plank in the eye doesn't that mean when a person tried to help with the speck we took it personal and then it turns to a plank over time?

It's no secret that my husband and I are different and thank God. I'm more extroverted and direct. He is more introverted and less likely to point out specks until they have gathered up a bit.  As a matter of fact I believe that is likely one of the issues in a Christian marriage. U both have to live a godly life right there in close proximity to each other with dust specks flying everywhere everyday getting in each other's eyes! Smile. I bless God for him because in the end I know he is pointing it out in love and not to harm me but help me/us. I'm not trying to have no plank putting us asunder. Lol

I know my blog goes to people who I may not know personally but if I know u and I have pointed out a piece of sawdust on/with u, that means I'm giving the green light for u to point out mine. Because if we are mutually picking out dust then no one has to walk around with a plank! Let's help each other handle the specks giving grace for our own known planks!

That's what I heard. Be encouraged today and inbox me or reply to me my sawdust so I can sufficiently deal with my own plank!  Lol

Don't Mess w/ That One...

If God be for us, who can be against us?   Romans 8:31

Growing up I didn't have siblings.  My older cousin Tosca was 2 years older than me and when I was in the same school with her I would talk stuff and then schedule her for any fighting that would be necessary.  I was not a fighter back then - I used my words.  LOL  I always felt protected though, because of my large extended family - I always had an uncle or two or seven that would let it be known "don't mess with THAT one".

It is comforting and encouraging to read that God is for us!  He is in the stands rooting for us when the enemy comes up against u and I with all kinds of nonsense and foolery!  Because he is FOR us the only time the enemy stands a chance to even come our way is when God allows them to, like Job because circumstances and faith tests have been passed and he knows how much we can bear.

But as we are reminded by Paul, though many may oppose, NONE can prevail against those who are the people of God. God is for us!!!  He has taken sides and he is on the side of those who fear him and trust in his Son Jesus Christ.  God the Father is for his people because he has chosen US, the Son is for US because he has redeemed US with his own blood, the Holy Spirit is for US because he calls US irresistibly to himself by faith.

If God himself is for us, who, indeed, got the nerve, or inclination, or gall who indeed can successfully oppose us? Tell me who???  Dear believer, because the true and living God fights for you this day, none can overcome you; in fact, none can truly even harm you. He is up there pointing at us saying "don't mess with that one".  Walk in the assurance of that truth today and always because he who keeps us neither slumbers nor sleeps!

That's what I heard!  Be blessed today!

Just Do It....But Just Don't Get Weary

Galatians 6:9-10. ... 9Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. 10So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.
Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

It's so easy to get weary. It's like you get encouraged, "yes I can do this" and run home with bursts of energy to do this that and the other then boom. Some distraction causes weariness to set in.  Or you wake up in the morning....it's a good day.... you head out to work to get 'er done and you get there and only two of the 20 things on your list get done because distractions cause weariness to set in. Or you make a plan "I'm going to the gym starting Monday" and all day Saturday you prep your meals for the week you get your cute workout outfit laid out and then Tuesday morning hits and weariness sets in. Maybe you do a budget that you have set up to get debt free and clearance sales emails and texts from your credit buddies (who only giving you this price when you use that 27% credit card) is distracting you and weariness sets in.

The issue as I see it is that we keep putting hope in OUR ability to act right.  I must move my muse to the hope of the Lord and not the will of Dagne. Dagne has great intentions but is made of flesh. The Lords hope is what allows me to mount up daily and get it cracking!  I know it's tough. If that's you today don't get weary.  See all those things you planned were gonna bring God glory so the enemy did his job by sending the distraction but ultimately you have the power. Use it. Feel his spirit help you mount up and your strength renew.  If this little bit helped you, then encourage and help someone else. That's what I heard!

A songwriter said it better, MY HOPE IS BUILT ON NOTHINGLESS THAN JESUS BLOOD AND RIGHTEOUSNESS. I DARE NOT TRUST THE SWEETEST FRAME BUT WHOLLY LEAN ON JESUS NAME!  Don't make me sing this whole song!  Whew!

Eyes Wide Open in Dothan

In the book of 2 Kings chapter 6, there is a story about God’s prophet Elisha. The king of one of Israel’s neighbors was quite upset with Elisha and sent a large force of soldiers to capture him while he stayed in a town called Dothan. Those soldiers surrounded the town overnight. Early in the morning, Elisha’s servant got up and saw that they were surrounded by enemies. What would they do? There was no way out. Surely he and his master would be captured. So he ran to tell Elisha the bad news. Yet Elisha calmly said, “Don’t be afraid. Those who are with us are more than those who are with them” (2 Kings 6:16). Then Elisha prayed that God would open the servant’s eyes so that he could see why Elisha was able to make such a claim. At once, the servant saw an angelic host, horses and chariots of fire, all around Elisha. God was with his prophet.

What force can stand against God?
That is the question the apostle Paul poses in Romans 8:31 when he writes, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Do you ever feel like Elisha’s servant: outmatched and outnumbered by mess? Are you overcome with worries and doubts of all sorts? “Does God still care about me? Does he still love me? Will he still provide for me even though I’ve failed to trust in him time after time? Will he forgive me for hurtful words I speak, or taking his grace for granted? Will he bring me through trying times in my life again?"

Well if so sounds like u r hanging out in Dothan needing ur eyes opened anew!  Here’s the wonderful truth: God is for us. The proof of that is found in the fact that he sent his Son, Jesus, to save Us.  He didn’t spare his own Son, but gave him up on the cross to forgive us and make us his very own. And if that is the length to which God goes for you, then as Paul asks, “Who can be against us?” The answer? No one! Nothing! Not even Satan himself! That's why he is always planting those seeds of doubt....alternative facts...or LIES in ur heart. In everything, you are more than a conqueror through Christ who loves you. God himself has seen to it.  Your Dothan is today, open ur eyes and see the chariots.

No force can stand against God!  That's what I heard!  Be blessed today!

Be blessed beloved!

We Be the MEpistle Today

1) Do we seem to be again attempting to put ourselves in the right? or have we need, as some have, of letters of approval to you or from you? (2) You yourselves are our letter, whose writing is in our heart, open for every man's reading and knowledge; (3) For you are clearly a letter of Christ, the fruit of our work, recorded not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in stone, but in hearts of flesh. (4) And this is the certain faith which we have in God through Christ: (5) Not as if we were able by ourselves to do anything for which we might take the credit; but our power comes from God. 2 Corinthians 3:1-5

That was a long scripture today, however, I wanted the whole context of the message straight from the word. This is Paul writing to the church at Corinth. Today our lives are the examples of Christ and his power on earth.  Any right living that we do is not based on ourselves but based on the power that comes from the Lord.

One day when I was a little girl in Sunday school at Mount Olive missionary Baptist Church 608 Main St., Clarksville, TN I recall Mrs. Ella Stacker telling me as she was teaching us from the book of Luke and I wanted to go into the book Galatians that "the sinner (as some of us were not yet saved) had no business in anything after the book of John." She said that the Gospels were written to save the lost and that anything after the book of John was written to the church to teach them how to live once they got saved.  Today we don't have an imprisoned Paul writing to us to tell us how to live. The most we have is Morning manna with my Bishop Geoffrey V Dudley!  Lol

We have the word of God. Our lives and how we live them; our faith and how we display it; our love relationship with Jesus and how we show it are the living epistles of today.  It is not through any power that we have but through his Spirit.  I thank God for his grace on the days when my story that I'm telling is not the most well written prose I could muster. Today if ur story is not in the best chapter; if the characters have taken a turn for the worse just keep living, keep serving, keep giving, keep trusting and believing. Eddie Kendrick wrote a song about it, Keep on Truckin Baby. Because when it's all said and done... just in the nick of time... it's God who gets the credit!
We r the epistles. Or the MEpistle!

That's what I heard!  Be encouraged today!!!

Mentoring the Greatest Love of All

For Valentine's Day I Am really thinking about love. What is it?  Do I display it?  Am I making a conscious effort to do it like the word says?? Let's take a look:

1 Corinthians 13:4-10The Message (MSG)

3-7 If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.
Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.
8-10 Love never dies. Inspired speech will be over some day; praying in tongues will end; understanding will reach its limit. We know only a portion of the truth, and what we say about God is always incomplete. But when the Complete arrives, our incompletes will be canceled.
Dear Lord, please forgive my past false claims of love. Help me to love like this. Help me to be a living witness of what love means. Give me the fruit of the spirit to carry out this measure of love and the wisdom to know when I am getting it wrong for self correction. Only ur son Jesus was the perfect love that cast out all fear but Give me the grace to be ur love example left here on earth!  In Jesus Name. I love u Lord Amen

Let it Be Unto Me

Luke 1:37 - For no word from God will ever fail.”

In this scripture the angel of the Lord was telling Mary that she was going to conceive Jesus. His last statement to her was... for nothing is impossible with God. He told her a number of what seemed to be impossibilities and then he told her the clincher sentence.  He told her who God was! It is outside of the nature of God to fail.  What I love is Mary's response. The very next verse says...

Luke 1:38 - “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.”

She didn't need to go consult her girls... she did not need to go see if Joseph was okay... she just received the word of the Lord. In her receipt of the word she identified herself. I am the Lord servant. The King James version says let it be unto me as you have said. In other words everything that you said about me that the Lord said about me...let THAT be unto me.

So fast-forward 2000 years later to your situation and my situation. Whatever the Lord is saying about you that's what's up...not those lies that the enemy has planted in your head about you. Not those lies u listen to the haters about. Everything that the Lord our God has purposed let it be unto you; everything that he has promised let it be unto you; everything that he has destined for your life from his word let it be unto you.  It's about you knowing who you are, articulating it in a proper response, and then walking in the grace that he has afforded us.

REPEAT AFTER ME:  I am the Lord servant may it be unto me as he has said!!!!  That's what I heard!  Be encouraged today!!

What's Love Got to do w It? Everything!

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.  Deut  6:5

Psalms 18:1 I love you, Lord, my strength.

Have u ever been overwhelmed by someone's love. Maybe the love of a child or someone that just flat out outloved u and it made u love them more?  That's how David is feeling here in psalms. He has been delivered from the hand of Saul and is crying out to the Lord with an inspired love song. While he was singing he knew about his past with all of his missteps along the way but the Lord was protecting him still, loving him still.  He knew that he had worry and anxiety about Saul but he was finding his strength in the Lord.

So it is with us. When we have a love song Sho nuff that we can pull up to remind not only God but ourselves how we love him because it is clear he has been loving us all along.  For me it's Altogther Lovely or I Love the Lord..He Heard My cry! Even we were not thinking about him. Even when we didn't even know he was protecting us from something until it all unfolded. Even when we have our minds made up like the little engine that could that "I'm not going to worry, I'm not going to stress" (that doesn't work by the way) we have to turn worry into worship. We have to turn stress into praise. We have to flip the script and Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength!  Because that's when he comes through like a boss and u can sincerely sing. I love u Lord and I lift my voice!!!!

That's what I heard.  Be encouraged today.  Don't worry, but worship him!  Love on him!

How Ya Living? By Faith

As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried
- Psalm 18:30

What an understatement to us today! Especially in this current world view with its alternative facts.  But when David said it he had less evidence than we do!  God's Word has been tried, tested, scrutinized, and relied upon by Christians throughout the ages. And, just as David testified, they have found it more than sufficient for their every need. They have discovered, in every generation and in every hard circumstance, that God's Word truly is perfect.

His counsel is always wise, his history is always accurate, his lessons are always true, and his commands are always relevant. God's way is perfect. He does not need to SWEAR. He can swear on himself!!  But David was not merely making an observation or teaching an academic lesson; David's point is that because God's Word has been tried and tested by millions through the centuries, and has been found perfect, each of us should therefore build our lives on this tried and sure foundation.  Fred Hammond sings a song called Perfect and True!  Pure in all your ways. (Look up on u tube).

Who do you look to for direction and for advice? Do you trust popular opinion, what's trending on Twitter, or well-meaning friends, to help you make decisions and find meaning in life? Or do you go to God's perfect Word over and over again, for counsel in every area of life?  Every area. Even those u think u got under control?  Yes that one.

The Word of the Lord is tried, it is proven, it is sure -- but have you tried it?. Just do it!

He's got this. That's what I heard. Be blessed today!

One and a Possible? Don't Just Go Board...Keep Dreaming!

Psalms 90:17 Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!

U have heard the saying "favor ain't fair". Well I say it's fair for those who Love the Lord our God. Favor is better than money.  Favor opens the doors we didn't even know was closed! You may do the work, but FAVOR establishes the work of our hands!

It's like playing spades with Jesus as your partner!  Lets picture this hand. U have no spades!  U have a couple of possibles at best. U know u can't do anything but go Board and u still may get set with this hand!

U thought u were set...u thought u would renig but u just played ur hand and THE MASTER OF THE SEAS established the work of ur hands by playing his in concert with urs. Beating the odds all the while. MY GOD THAT'S GOOD NEWS!!!

That's what I heard!  Hope u r encouraged by it!

Be blessed today. Smooches!! Mrs Barton.

Can U Hear Me Now? Ring, Ring

1 Samuel 3:7-10 says.....Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD: The word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him. The LORD called Samuel a third time, and Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” Then Eli realized that the LORD was calling the boy. So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

Many of us when using a cell phone have learned the skill of “selective answering.”  Our cell phones ring; we look at who is calling, and in an instant decide whether or not we are going to answer. Send an auto text back or just DECLINE. It is “selective answering.”

Unfortunately, too often we do something similar when it comes to the Lord’s communication with us. We use “selective listening.” When we read what God has to say in the Bible we think, “Go ahead and speak, Lord. I will think about what you have to said to me.   We read the word, we hear the word, and because it's just like God he will even send a confirmation! That's his way of saying CAN U HEAR ME NOW?

If it is a hard word, we may act like we didn't hear the phone...it was on silent.  If it's a word of correction we act like it's just voicemail we left unanswered. When however it's a promise or a blessing, we r at full attention and even have a special ringtone for it so we don't miss that call. Lol.

Samuel did not yet know the Lord.  So listening is not a skill for a seasoned saint. We just have to quit our stalling tactics and clean outur voicemail and start returning calls!  Get to know all his ringtones so when that blessing call comes...u will be there to take the call!

That's what I heard! Be encouraged today!  I hear your phone ringing! 😉😉😉

Don't be Pro @ Procrastination

Don't be Pro @ Procrastination

John 15:2. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.

Last night the word from Bishop Woodson let me know God has lead us to some dry places in the past to cause us to GET IT and move. Get it and produce fruit anyway. It's time. I have been prophesied to about it. I have had several confirmations. Now it's on me to produce fruit.

U ever notice how the 80-20 rule keeps going alive and well?  20% of the people doing 80% of the work and visa versa?  That's because those who are always churning out fruit at home, at work, at church etc r being pruned to be even more fruitful. Procrastination sets in around that dry bones area sometimes because we r BUSY in areas we r not actually being fruitful in. Some may think they need to be perfect to be fruitful. U just need to be available to be fruitful. If u avail yourself u can be fruitful in your relationships, in your job, in the marketplace, or in ministry....wherever THAT area is.

Let us stop waiting for the conditions to be just right. Let's stop giving excuses why we woulda shoulda coulda and just DO IT. When we move God will move. I'm moving out this year in several areas that have some unknowns. I believe God is going to back me up!  He is the reason afterall...all of it is for his glory!

Oh and if you're already just doing a lot of things right now, this is not encouraging you to do more necessarily. It is encouraging you to cut those things off that are not producing fruit and do the things that will even if u don't see anything but bones. Time is of the essence.

That's what I heard!  Be blessed and be fruitful!  Just do it!

Anxious for What?

Don't u love the Message Bible?  When I really want the word to knock me out, I love this translation. It is always said in a manner just like I would say it. When u buy something and it is not working like it should u consult the manufacturer. The Lord didn't make us to be defeated by anxious thoughts and circumstances. He created conqueror's so let's consult the manufacturer and see how we should handle this.

Philippians 4:6-9The Message (MSG)

6-7 Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

8-9 Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.

Dear Lord, sometimes ur word just sums it all up. I pray for my sisters and brothers who have anxiety about this that or the other. U will trade our worry for your peace. U will trade our sorrow for joy. U have turned my sadness to gladness before. U made a way in the past and u r more than able to do it again. We trust you to perform ur word in our lives. In Jesus Name.  Amen!!!!

That's what I heard!  Be blessed this morning.

A Cure for the Blahs

January 23, 2017

In my anguish I cried to the LORD, and he answered by setting me free. The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? (Psa 118:5-6 NIV)

Ever have a blah feeling day?  Did u ever just have a lot on ur mind? Ever know oh ok, I am in my feelings. U have had that kind of day right?  When u need to only be around ur real friends because u about to just act salty for no reason???  Ur first day backs o work after inauguration and u want to just vent at work?  If this is u, i get it!  I feel u!  I have a word to encourage you because I HEARD the Lord say I got u and u r not the only one going through. So the word is Psalms 118 where David is literally running for his life. Saul was literally trying to kill him. He has reason to feel anguish. But in his anguish he cried out to the Lord whom he knew and loved and was comforted.

Well no one is literally stalking u and trying to snuff u out. But there is an adversary in the spirit that wants us to be downcast and anxious. But I serve a God who when I cry out in this state sends a comforting word and settles me to know I am free indeed. He is Emmanuel. The Lord with us. No man. No situation. No fake political news. No Patriots getting the Super Bowl again (tee hee hee). No anguish he cannot heal. he is the Lord and he never fails!

That's what I heard. It helped me. Hope it encouraged u.

Who R U Mentoring 2017

January 21, 2017

Who RU Mentoring?

Paul spelled out mentoring as his leadership model very simply. “Follow my example as I follow the example of Christ.” (I Cor. 11:1) “Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me — put it into practice.” (Phil. 4:9) In other words, “let me mentor you. Let me be your role model.”  Don’t worry this is not an appeal for Project Gradation to be a mentor…it is an appeal for you to recognize that as a Christian, you are already a mentor.  You are modeling behavior.  In our last couple of posts I have been talking about one anothering and its importance.  One aspect of that are the relationships that we have where we are the mentor and where we are the mentee. I will talk about being the mentee tomorrow, but in being the mentor, we have to know that we are sometimes the only light in a dark situation.  We are mentoring all day when we have newer Christians around or those who do not yet believe.  What are we showing and telling with our lives?

Now that we have a new president I WILL NOT do like some of them did our president with blatant disrespect. Disagree with his decisions and basic thinking but don't attack him publicly and in the same breath expect someone to respect ur authority in whatever role u have. We got four years to do our part to make and take a stand for what is right. Again don't run him down, run ur plan to do better UP. Let us Vote. Let us Volunteer. Let us Do. Less talk more DOING. And in the doing, model that.

In the bible, not only Jesus and the apostles, but elders as well do their work by mentoring. Peter charged, “be examples to the flock.” (I Pet. 5:4) And Paul explains to the elders at Ephesus, “You know how I lived the whole time I was with you”(Acts 20:17).  So that charge comes back to us today to make sure we are not being weak modeling for the weak.  If we are the one in the position to give direction, we can’t be all out on Tim-buck-two Highway trying to pull up MapQuest without a signal.  We should know enough to guide our way to the right road.

We are not perfect.  Mentees (the official and unofficial ones you don’t even know about that are watching you) just want to see how to grow when you don’t get it right.  What is your response when things don’t work out?  In your mentor moment, make sure your model home is a great likeness to the other houses in the neighborhood you talk about.

That’s what I heard!  Be encouraged today!

His Ways...Not my Way

“For I command you this day to love the LORD your God and to keep his commands, decrees, and regulations by walking in his ways. If you do this, you will live and multiply, and the LORD your God will bless you and the land you are about to enter and occupy.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭30:16‬ ‭NLT‬‬
So when I look at this scripture and the many similar scriptures in The Old Testament God was clear if u do what I have told u, then I will do what I have told u.  My great grandmother would call that "minding". If u would just mind what I say...  Another scripture says "Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”  Proverbs‬ ‭3:6‬ ‭NLT‬‬
The 21-day fast time period is this for me. I have my devotional life regularly in the mornings, but during the fast this is what happens for me.  Because I have stopped some things that cause distractions and focused my attention on the Lord....giving more time to him....that amounts to being intentional about seeking the Lord in all I do.  When I do that, living the standard becomes easier.  Focusing on his plan and not my plan becomes a little easier. Isaiah‬ ‭55:9‬ ‭NLT says "For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”   Clearly a perfect blameless life is not the requirement because the only perfect man was Jesus but in these times of clarity of thought and narrowing of scope of my day I will say I am drawing closer.  I am so grateful for this time of me talking to him and him talking back to me.  That's when we look more and more like him.

Remember on Sesame Street back in the day when they would have the sketch of ONE OF THESE THINGS IS NOT LIKE THE OTHER....  There would be 4 things and one would clearly be different from the other three. Fasting for me is when God highlights those areas in my life that r least like him. Those areas I need to lean more toward his ways than my ways.  Those times when I was hearing from Dagne and not from God. It also causes me to be more fruitful in those areas that r bringing him glory.  Yes Dagne you do have time to work on this today...it's gonna bring me glory. Yes Dagne that idea was on point I gave u to call that person, it's gonna bring me glory.  Yes Dagne since u trusted me with ur tithes, I am gonna make this budget stretch like it needs to.  So God I thank u for YOUR WAYS and how u r calling us closer and closer to u day after day!  Be encouraged today and be an encouragement to someone else! That's what I heard!

Not .Just .Dreaming

Joel 2:28 “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.

Today we remember the dream of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. He was the embodiment of this scripture. He prophetic speeches manifested themselves long after his death. I believe in the height of the civil rights movement he was living the nightmare part of the dream. He was willing to articulate his dream and mobilize leaders and community around his very words.  He was bold in his giftedness and willingness to dream in the very face of much opposition.

Likewise, the Lord has poured out his spirit on you and on me.  His Spirit is there to guide us along the path of our dream...the path of our prophesy. Sometimes u may feel u r in the nightmare part of the dream.  Don't be dismayed. This is the time to dig in and rely on him more. That word of prophesy over ur life will come to pass. The vision God has given will come to fruition. It's a matter of time. Keep the prophesy alive. Keep dreaming. Keep seeing the vision.....be bold....Be encouraged!!

20/20 Faith

20/20 Faith
2 Chronicles 20:20 So they got up early in the morning and went out...Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem! Believe and trust in the Lord your God and you will be established secure. Believe and trust in His prophets and succeed.”

When I was a little girl I needed glasses all through elementary school. I didn't get glasses until the 5th grade. Every year the health department would come over to the school and check vision of the students. In 1st and 5th grade the same person came and went home with me to literally tell Muhdear that I needed glasses. She act just like I had not been squinting and tellling her that for years (lol) but anyway she got them. I remember leaving Pearl Vision Center at Two Rivers Mall in tears. I was so happy to finally see. There were things I had NEVER ever seen clearly before. It was a whole new world for me.

Likewise when we really GET 2Chr20:20 it can open a whole new world for our faith. Repeatedly the Lord introduced himself in the Old Testament as I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD. It's only when we put him in his place of Lord and God of our lives in every area that we have 20/20 vision like I did that day in Pearl Vision Center or 20:20 Faith.

I don't trust Trump but I trust God.  I don't trust my feelings but ur do trust God. I don't trust what I see right in front of my situation but I wholeheartedly trust the Lord my God.  This 20:20 Faith is how we are "established secure".

Last night I received this word from the preached word of my Bishop. That's what the very next line of the verse refers to. Don't let anyone or anything break that pastor/sheep relationship u have.  When it says "Believe and trust in His prophets and succeed" it means to me God will send a word through his prophet just to encourage u to continue to trust and ultimately succeed. Opposition to ur success comes in the forms of any distraction keeping u from his word. So be encouraged today! Trust God....Just Do It!!!

That's what I heard!

Just Do It...Be Blessed

James 1:25....but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

This word spoke to me today in my devotional time.  Essentially James is telling us that it's great to hear a word and believe it but that is not enough. U must act on that belief. If u receive the word after hearing the word, then there should be demonstration.

Remember when u first trained on a new job?  U read the SOP week one. No one really expected u to do more than read the manual at that point but by week two u must be in demonstration mode to collect ur "blessing" on the 1st and 15th.

So what word do u know backwards and forward but yet not DOING?  U heard ur more than a conqueror but demonstrating defeat?  U trust in the Lord with all ur heart but u demonstrate leaning on ur own understanding?  Let's try something different in 2017!

We have heard God has not given us a spirit of fear. This is the year to actually NOT FEAR.

We have heard He has plans for a hope and a future. This is the year to demonstrate that hope that we have.

We have heard we can do all things through Christ and this is the year to JUST DO IT!

Dear Lord I will move from hearing to doing this year!  I will be a doer of ur word and I will be blessed and be a blessing!  In Jesus name! Amen.

This is what I heard today....
